Baby Massage
The benefits of this therapy are well documented many people know that Baby Massage is good for the Baby, but how many of you ever stopped to think about the benefits for the Parents?
Those of us that have children know that a new baby can throw your well ordered life into chaos, leaving the Parents feeling Guilty and with a negative attitude towards the newest member of the family. In the first six weeks, with no sleep pattern to speak of and no eating pattern either, it is very easy to understand why many parents consider a baby anything but loveable. This then builds into a catch 22 where the negativity is picked up by the baby therefore creating what it perceives as an insecure environment, the tiredness of the parent also builds so that they forget to interact with the baby and this in turn is telling the baby that it is unloved, and it becomes a vicious circle of trying to keep the baby calm, whilst the parent is becoming more irritated by the baby, causing constant crying.
During this time many Parents forget to look after themselves and as a consequence end up ill. If you can relieve some of the pressure on yourself by learning a simple technique to massage a baby the results can be amazing, but only after the baby is 6 weeks old. This ensures the baby is healthy and so are the parents if shattered! After this period, as a parent, it can then feel like you have been abandoned and left to fend for yourself, but there is help out there.
The benefits for the Parents are many and varied, the obvious one is the relieving of stress.
This is because Baby Massage when done well will make the baby feel secure, loved and therefore calmer. This is also fed back to the Parent making them feel more confident. The circle of emotion has now changed, the confidence is fed back to the baby giving the baby a sense of security, and therefore is calmer. A calm baby is a happy baby.
A happy baby does not cry so much or for so long, therefore relieving stress. This has a two fold effect, the Parent does not feel so tired and starts to take more notice of themselves and will begin to feel positive about the baby, as well as their suitability as a parent.
It also helps new parents become more confident in the handling of their baby. Some people are very afraid of handling a new born baby, but they are not made of China, even though you think they are.
Massaging a baby gives you a chance to interact with them, talk to them and play with them this gives the baby a sense of security, and a sense of being loved. By making eye contact with them you are implementing the bonding process. Sometimes it takes someone else to show you and give you guidance to help with this.
