Classic Party Games What is better at a birthday party than a good selection of party games to keep everyone entertained?! With no age limitations, these party games have been carefully selected so that every member of your event can join in and have a giggle. With some games suitable for inside on a rainy day, and others meant to be enjoyed running around in the sun, we offer you an amusement for whatever your party situation!
Musical Statues Play some funky party tunes and get everyone dancing. Stop the music suddenly, and those who haven’t stopped with the music and ‘frozen’ into a position are out. The winner is the last party guest on the dancefloor! Hot Potato Ask your guests to stand in a circle and while playing some music gently throw a ball or beanbag between the players. The beanbag should stop when the music does, and if it doesn’t the person who threw it is out! The winner of the game is the last person left holding the beanbag!
Hula Hoop Contest With the aid of a stopwatch and some plastic Hula Rings, the winner is the party guest who can keep their hoop up the longest, using only the motion of their waist and hips. The clock must stop if the hoop is touched by hands or elbows, or falls to the floor. Mummy Wrap Using a toilet roll, one party guest from each team must be ‘wrapped up’ to look like an Egyptian Mummy. The team who covers their Mummy the fastest wins the game. To make this game fair, Mummy’s of equal size are recommended! I Love….. An alphabetical memory game. Players sit in a circle and the first player starts with saying “I love….”, and selects something beginning with ‘A’. This selection can be anything from an item of clothing to a persons name to a colour. The second player repeats the starting players line, “I love (first players choice starting with A)”, and adds their own item beginning with B. The third player must then add an item beginning with C after correctly remembering the previous players choices. The longer the game continues the harder it is to remember all the items! Simon Says The age old party game of ‘Simon Says’ in which one player is chosen as ‘Simon’ and instructs the rest of your guests to do things like touch their nose with their finger. The guests must do as they are told as long as ‘Simon’ starts the instruction with ‘Simon Says…’. If a player moves without the instruction of ‘Simon Says’ pre-empting the action, any player that moves is out of the game! The winner is the one that does as ‘Simon Says’!
Treasure Hunt Organise a Treasure Hunt for party guests of all ages to partake in. Offer 10 simple clues to make them scamper form one end of the house/garden to the other and watch them squeal with delight when they find each clue! The final prize could be anything from a Pinata to a ‘Pass The Parcel’, ready to start the next party game! Balloon Stamp Each player has a party balloon tied to his/her ankle, and the object of the game is to burst everyone else’s balloons but to save your own. Once a balloon has been burst, the party guest tied to it must sit out. The winner of the game is the last player with a balloon intact! Bingo Create your own Bingo gameboards with some cardboard and felt tip pens as an arty activity to keep your small party guests amused. Bingo appeals to both adults and children alike, so make sure that there are enough cards for everyone to join the game! Feather Blow Every player is given a feather and the object of the game is to keep their feather afloat by blowing it into the air. The player who keeps their feather up the longest by using only his/her breath wins!
General Advice
Try and avoid elimination games. The children who are out can get bored and the object of the game lost.
Have energetic games before tea! or you may end up cleaning up the cake twice!!!!
Have loads of mini sweets as prizes, Children will think they have won the jackpot with just a small chew!
Avoid lolly's with sticks... Running with sticks in the mouth is potentially dangeous.
Please consider either not having or at least not giving Blowers, whistles or any noise making gadgets out until the very end of the party ! if you want to avoid a headache!!
Balloons, again are best left till the end, or you will not have enough to give away!
Finally if the thought of entertaining children fills you with dread, use a professional. Childrens entetainers run parties every week! They can take all the presure of you, so you can enjoy the party.
