The gremlin stems from the messages we hear when we’re growing up. As luck would have it, our subconscious is a bit of a trickster, and chooses to usually ignore the positive stuff, and remember the times when we were told that we couldn’t possibly achieve what we want to do. And so these are the things that stick, that get so embedded in our psyche that it’s no easy task to start to shift our thinking, and actually believe it.

Visualising and affirming in the present tense is, we’ve found the best way round this. Simply inwardly or outwardly stating your intention, imagining it as if it were happening right now, and having the confidence and belief that it will be so, is all that needs to be done. Easy, eh?

Well it is, when you can get over all the negative hurdles of low self-esteem, lack of self-belief, and other people’s opinions!

And here’s something to try. Consciously become aware of how many times the words ‘I can’t believe…..’ are used in daily conversation, in dialogue in films, soaps, documentaries, advertisements (e.g. I can’t believe it’s not butter). The more we hear this, the more it’s re-inforcing the negative. Whenever you catch yourself about to use this, change it to ‘I’m amazed that…’ And there you go, you’ve just broken free from one particular thought prison already.

When we started Lunicorn, everyone thought I was mad to chuck my secure job with its salary, pension and perks. In my own family even, there were mutters of disappointment, disapproval and dismay. It took a while before I managed to shut out those voices, live in my own shoes and have the faith that we’ll survive amidst all the material realities of bills etc.

To be honest, it’s only since then, have we noticed that there’s a shift happening with our business. And also, that we are now attracting positive and optimistic people into our circle of friends. The saying ‘be careful what you wish for’ is so true.

Asking for help from the universe and believing you can do whatever you set your mind to is a biggie to digest, but it works.

And so, it is from our own experience, that we started hosting workshops for kids. We felt that if we could tap into that wonderment and absolute belief at an early age, then we could go some way to preserving and enhancing it in adult life.

So at the risk of sounding like Whitney Houston, the children ARE our future, and it is through them that we can make small but significant changes that will re-shape the thought processes of tomorrow.
